German Republic (1923 Hyperinflation)
In 1923 inflation was running at such a rate that the postal rates changed almost weekly. The official printer couldn't keep up and local printers were employed to overprint the new values. |
Cancelled stamps are hard to find as stamps were only used for a short period. The cancellation should be clear and the date should be legible and in the right period |
The cancellations on the left two stamps and the second from right are not considered valid and these stamp are rated at the lower "unused" value. |
The values became higher and higher; 250 thousand |
400 thousand |
800 thousand |
And finally the first stamps over a million Marks. Notice the different perforation on the right stamp. |
From half a million to 50 billion, these stamps were issued in October and November of 1923. |
The last inflation stamp, notice the perforation on the right stamp. |
