German Empire (1875 - 1900)

In 1875 the currency in the whole country was changed to the Mark which consisted of 100 Pfennig. This called for a new issues of stamps.

The first issue was denominated in Pfennige, the later issue was denominated in Pfennig. In the issue there are lots of color variations

The high value was the 2 Mark stamp, which also exists in many colors.

These are the stamps of the Pfennig series. Again there are lots of color variations.

In 1889, new designs were introduced. The variations on color remained. Some of the different colors are best seen under a UV lamp

Early 1900 an extra value was introduced.

At the same time, the first stamps of the famous Germania series where issued. This design would be used until 1922.
